Members of The Singing Teens in front of Grace Gospel Church,
1968.
|
In 1965, evangelist Gene Dalton and his wife Audrey moved with their
three children from Minnesota to the small town of Waco, Texas in
order to be part of the ministry team at Grace Gospel Church. Soon
after arriving in Texas they created a musical group of about 30
young people in the church, called "The Singing Teens."

This is a picture of The Singing Teens riding in
a bus on their way to minister in Amarillo Texas. On the left you
can see Donnie Dalton listening to his radio, most likely a Baylor
basketball game.
They
ministered in crusades, churches, nursing homes, shopping centers,
coffee houses, and on street corners in the Texas region. Soon,
young people in the group, inspired by the scriptures, started writing
their own praise songs. The group was renamed "The New Creation
Singers" after the verse in II Corinthians 5:17.

Since the group was led by Gene Dalton, the other members of the
Dalton family were always involved. Audrey was the sound mixer,
as well as mom-away-from-mom to all 30 kids. Donnie played guitars
and sang, while Sherry played bass guitar and sang. Kent, the youngest,
also started singing at a very young age, and eventually played
keyboards with the group.
